From 10th – 14th February 2025, National Apprenticeship Week celebrates the incredible value apprenticeships bring to both individuals and businesses. This year, we’re shining a spotlight on the impactful apprenticeship journeys at Peter Harding Wealth Management, where talented individuals like Katie Deadman and Lauren Churchill are paving their way to success. Both studied towards their Financial Services Administrator Level 3 qualification—and here’s a look at their experiences!
Katie:
After finishing my A-Levels, I realised that University wasn’t the right path for me. The idea of an apprenticeship really appealed to me because it offers a mix of practical, hands-on work experience and studying.
Lauren:
For me, it was all about the opportunity to earn while you learn. University wasn’t calling my name, and with so many apprenticeship options available, it felt like the best move for me.
Katie:
The apprenticeship has been really well-structured and planned out. Transitioning from A-Levels, I felt comfortable with balancing work and studying due to the support I had from both my tutor and my line manager, Susan. Every few months, we’d have catch-ups to talk about my progress and how I could improve. I always felt supported, whether it was with my studies or work.
Lauren:
I’ve enjoyed the experience so far. Work can get pretty busy particularly with annual reviews however Shannon, my line manager, has been really supportive at helping me balance work with my studies. The Skills Edge team has also been incredibly supportive throughout, making it a positive journey.
Katie:
I completed my apprenticeship in May 2024, and I’m now on track to earn my diploma by the end of 2025. I’ve recently started working in our paraplanning team, and my goal is to eventually become a qualified paraplanner and financial adviser.
Lauren:
I’m still in the midst of my apprenticeship, but I’ve already had encouraging discussions with Shannon about my next steps.
Katie:
I would recommend for anyone finishing A-Levels and not sure what path to take. An apprenticeship is a fantastic option.
Lauren:
100%! You get to learn on the job, applying everything you’ve learned from the course to real-world situations.
Susan McClymont, Operations Specialist at Peter Harding Wealth Management, on the value of apprenticeships:
“We have found that the financial services apprenticeships offer an incredible opportunity for individuals looking to build a successful career in the financial services sector. They bridge the gap between education and real-world practical experience. The apprenticeship scheme combines practical on the job experience as well as a strong foundational knowledge of finance. Individuals are also supported by a team of financial services professionals who work alongside them acting as mentors.
An obvious perk is being paid to learn!
We have found that apprenticeships have offered an excellent opportunity for our individuals to launch a successful career in the industry.
Our candidates have been able to use real life case studies and work on projects which benefit them and the business.”
As National Apprenticeship Week unfolds, we celebrate the achievements of apprentices like Katie and Lauren, and the incredible potential that apprenticeships offer in shaping the next generation of professionals. At Peter Harding Wealth Management, we’re proud to invest in the future of financial services and create a thriving environment for growth, learning, and success.
